Aurora's Origin Story

How the idea began

Every idea has a story. Aurora Enterprises is no exception.

Aurora's Origin story started in late 2015 with a tragedy. After discovering the hard way, with the easily avoidable loss with the passing of a close friend, that the biggest cause of death is medical oversight & negligence, we were determined to find a way to help save lives.

Through desperation came innovation, & Aurora created it's first initiative - a range of life-saving smart wearables, allowing everyone to carry this important information on them at all times, making it easier to be quickly accessed by anyone at a time of need, from passers by to paramedics.

We knew that to make something that would save lives, it would have to be easily accessible, affordable, easy to set up, & not carry any subscriptions or additional costs.

It had to quickly & easily provide essential 'ICE' medical, contacts, & location information, even sending alerts to friends, carers, or loved ones!

And so Aurora Smart Tags were born.

How Aurora began

Aurora started as a 'garage project', determined to focus on making a difference, save lives, help those in need, support the community, local businesses & good causes, & use technology to improve & save lives.

As with many ideas, the dream & reality can be worlds apart, but as the range of initiatives grew, we knew that Aurora was going to be a social enterprise like no other.

Turning an Idea into Reality

It was easy to get carried away with all that we wanted to do, and so we had to start somewhere.

All too often we hear stories of tragic medical oversights. Many of these could so easily have been avoided. Ask yourself, if someone close to you needs medical help, how can you help ensure that they receive the right treatment? This question seemed like a great place to start.

Seeing & hearing almost every days of how many patients, unconscious, unable to speak clearly, or simply to remember increase the workload on the health service, it became clear that easy access to the right information or people could help identify or speed up the right care to give.

So we created Aurora Smart Tags, a life saving initiative, determined to help make it easier to avoid the dangerous oversights which could be the difference between life & death.

These Aurora Smart Tags were first designed for quick & easy access to key medical & contact information, but have since grown to offer a wide 

Since those early days back at the start of 2016, we’ve come a long way!

In those early days, we were still too ahead of the wave. Unlike today, many phones were still not equipped with NFC, a technology for Wireless Information Sharing via a Smartphone.

After a patient wait for Apple to unlock NFC, late 2018 saw Apple finally lift this technology barrier on their iPhones.

Knowing that it was only a matter of time everyone would this technology, we pressed ahead with other initiatives, such as Aurora Local (Deals 4 Donations), as well as range of domestic & commercial Smart Tags.

Bringing the Enterprise to Life

Despite the offer of external investment, we wanted to make sure any funding was aligned to the company's best interests. As a social enterprise (a business with a strong mission to achieve a positive goal), it was essential that products & services were developed for the interests of the public, as opposed to investors, & so we knew that growth would be slow, & rely on the input from anyone willing & able.

With various team members, each serving a clear purpose from helping fund the project, managing 3rd parties, designing & testing products, & helping raise their profile, we gradually made progress in refining the product to become perhaps the most versatile tagging solution on the planet.

With Richard, Joel, Chris, & many others, we gradually helped develop Aurora to be ready for the world.

What the Future Holds

With initiaties like Aurora Smart Tags (life saving wearables & commercial smart tagging solutions), & Aurora Local (a deals site where 5% of every deal sold becomes a charitable donation to a cause chosen by the buyer), coupled with a range of other initaitives, like Publishing or Good, a membership & subscription platform, & much more, we believe that Aurora will make an impact & hopefully help improve & save many lives.
